Traditionally Industrial Design and Engineering deliverables are completed using AutoCAD along with Excel spreadsheets and Access db's.
AutoCAD produces 2D and 3D diagrams and Excel and Access produce lists and reports.
Generally, engineers and senior designers will mark up drawings and a drafter or junior designer/engineer will make the changes in the various files. Although there are many people who prefer to do the whole process and complete both the design and drafting.
Many times Excel and Access will be developed by a company to provide custom programs using VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) to exchange similar data between AutoCAD and Excel or Access.
